The buildingL’immeuble
This is the newer residential wing of the Nordelec, the former Northern Electric plant that fills the block between Saint-Patrick, Richardson, Shearer and Richmond and was built in stages between 1913 and 1948. ELAD Canada ran the complex as offices and commercial space for years before opening the residential floors, and 1740 Saint-Patrick came online around 2015 with about twelve levels of soft lofts above the older masonry base. Units lean modern rather than raw industrial, with big windows and open plans, and the shared spaces are the draw: a rooftop deck with a heated pool and barbecues, a gym, a screening room and a lounge, with indoor parking and lockers below. The Lachine Canal path is a minute away, Atwater Market and Charlevoix metro are a short walk, and Griffintown sits across the water.
Worth knowing: À savoir : Sources disagree on whether 1740 is a conversion, a new wing or added floors: one listing says 1929, the loft specialist says 2015. Unit split between 1730 and 1740 is not confirmed.
